BOLIVIA — Wanda Fern “Granny” Duncan, 80, peacefully transitioned into eternal life with Jesus Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, while at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

She was born April 29, 1939, in Rich Creek, Virginia, to the late Kathryn Elizabeth (Ballard) Duncan and George Washington Duncan.

Survivors include her daughter, Allison Elizabeth Davis (Charles) of Bolivia; grandson, Christopher Angelo Arcaro (Mariana) of Wilmington; and brother, Wayne Douglas Duncan (Ann) of Virginia Beach. Her best friend of 68 years, Barbara Kubricky (John) of Port Charlotte, Florida, was like a sister to her. She dearly loved her fur grandchild, Indy, who was her constant companion and therapy dog for the last 14 years and her great-grand-dogs, Terri and Dora.

She graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1957. She began working for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company while in high school and retired in 1991 with 35 years’ service.

In her later life, she loved crossword puzzles, coloring, Chinese checkers, music, bingo, her daughter’s cooking, and most of all, watching her grandson bowl.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to Katy Ward, N.P., and her nurse, Melanie, at Oceanside Family Medicine; Dr. Damian Brezinski of Island Cardiology; Novant Brunswick Medical Center Physicians; nurses and staff, Liberty Home Health in Supply; and Dr. Summerlin and her hospice angels (staff) at the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, who all took wonderful care of Wanda her last year of life during her illnesses. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

Please wear a shade of purple (Wanda’s favorite color) to the celebration of life service that will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at Silver Lake Baptist Church, 4715 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. at Silver Lake Baptist Church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that donations be directed locally to any of the Lower Cape Fear Hospice locations or a local animal rescue of your choice.

Share online condolences with the family at Coastal Cremations.
