LELAND — Thomas Marsh “Tommy” Baucom Sr., 70, entered into eternal peace with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, July 21, 2019, with his family by his side at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after a short battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Tommy was born March 4, 1949, the son of Thomas Clarke and Katherine Page Baucom. Tommy was raised at First Baptist Church in Garner and baptized at nine years old. He married Ruth Colvin in October 1977, and they had been side by side every day since then.

Tommy graduated from Garner Senior High School and went to Wake Technical College to complete his technical degree. Tommy started working when he was a teenager, and he was working until the end. His career started with CP&L where he spent 24 years, and then he moved on to various jobs where he traveled around the Southeast and ultimately 47 of the 48 contiguous states.

Tommy loved to travel but his ultimate goal was to live at the coast. In 2008, Tommy and Ruth made their dream happen when they moved to the Wilmington coastal area, bought a Jeep and were able to drive out on the beach any time they wanted. Nothing made Tommy happier than being on the beach with Ruth, their dog, and the Jeep.

Tommy was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Page Baucom; stepmother, Dora Smith Baucom; and stepbrother, Forest Smith. He is survived by his father, Thomas Clarke Baucom, and his wife, Ruth Colvin Baucom; children, Chuck and Tricia and T.J. and Jennifer; grandchildren, Liam, Lucas, Cameron and Kylie; siblings, Julie and Dan Jones, Yetive and Louis Capps, Katherine Baucom and Alison Seger; and stepsister, Loretta, and Barry Rittenhouse.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 27, at First Baptist Church of Garner, Garner.

In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a page for memorial donations to be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
