SOUTHPORT — Carolyn Jean Flynn, 75, formerly of Chester, New Jersey, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

Carolyn was born Dec. 19, 1943, in Plainfield, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Carl Frederick Blattner and Katherine Moritz Blattner. She grew up in Bound Brook, New Jersey, where she met her husband, George. They lived and raised their children in New Jersey until moving to St. James, Southport, in 2012.

Over the years, Carolyn had many roles, including college student, childcare worker, gardener, bowler, artist, horseback rider, party planner, business owner, librarian, loving wife, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.

Her greatest role in life, however, was being a loving and caring mother. She had five children of her own, but was often referred to as Mom or Momma Flynn by many of her children’s friends. With her love of plants, birds and nature, she taught her children respect and compassion for others and all living things.

She is survived by her husband of almost 55 years, George Carl Flynn of Southport; sons, Scott Flynn of Horseheads, New York, Gregg Flynn of Long Valley, New Jersey, and Todd Flynn of Montclair, New Jersey; daughters, Kristen Powers of Richmond, Virginia, and Kelly Flynn of Central, South Carolina; sisters, Joan Shaw, Atkinson, New Hampshire, and Ann Huggler, Berwyn, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Nicole, Danielle, Gabby, Cooper, Graeme, Shea, Johanna, Liam, Kaelan, Cyrus and Devon; and great-grandchild, Bentley.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 22, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, 1411 North Howe St., Southport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
