Ruthe Lauter Sublett, 86, held various jobs demonstrating her love of people

WILMINGTON — Ruthe Lauter Sublett, 86, died Saturday, March 16, 2019. She was born June 5, 1932, in Ironton, Ohio, to Ralph Lauter and Essie Bartram Lauter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Sublett; and daughter, Lisa Traylor.

She is survived by her children, Ralph Bates, Carla Cannon, and her husband, Joe, Sandra Mathis, and her husband, James, Lynda Barnhill, and her husband, Ray, and Jimmy Sublett; and 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Ruthe was very active in the community and public service. She held various jobs over the years demonstrating her love of people and faith. She was a Sunday school teacher, R.A. leader, children’s choir director, foster parent, house parent at Kennedy Children’s Home, guardian ad litem, and dispatcher at Carolina Beach Police Department. She attended Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends and guests at the home of Sandra Mathis. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 21, at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow in Wilmington National Cemetery.
