WILMINGTON — Sylvia “Jan” Alberti Cayton, 59, wife, mother, daughter and sister, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019. She was born Dec. 1, 1959, to Caley Eugene Alberti and Jane Bowen Alberti, who preceded her in death.
Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, as a daughter to a senior Navy chief, she relocated to North Carolina, where she spent the majority of her life in Jacksonville and Wilmington. She had a passion for knowledge, and a love for those in need. She attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she received her bachelor’s degree, and went on to the University of New England, where she graduated with a master’s degree in social work.
Jan will be remembered as a child of God and a member of the Catholic faith, daily spreading the love of Christ to her family, who have rest knowing she is now in the loving arms of the Lord. She battled cancer for the last four years, where her faith and her love for her family and those close to her gave her strength.
Jan’s love and legacy carry on through her husband, Todd; daughters, Krystal (Rob) and Chrissy (Ryan); son, Jeff (Kristin); sisters, Pam and Donna (Mark); brothers, Sammy (Codi), Jason and Tommy; grandchildren, Brandon (Alena), Jacob, Jerret, Jaden and Shelby; great-grandchild, Ansley; and stepmother, Linda.
She fought the good fight; she finished the race.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21, at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Paxton officiating. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
