Rose Mae Godwin Shepard, 80, ‘Master Yoda’ of floral designs at New River Pottery

WILMINGTON — Rose Mae Godwin Shepard, 80, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.

Rose was born Oct. 13, 1938, in Johnston County, a daughter of the late Henry Clyde “H.C.” Godwin and Mae Watson Godwin. Her son, Troy Shepard; and two sisters, Pamela Kearney and Jackie Johnson, preceded her in death.

She was a skilled talent with a beautiful soul who worked with special needs students at Hoggard High school. She also worked at New River Pottery, where she was referred to as the “Master Yoda” of floral designs. She will be loved and missed by all her family and friends.

She is survived by her two children, son, Bud Shepard (Jeannie) and Erin Mercer (Mark), all of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Brittany and Ashley Shepard, Samantha Mercer and Trey Bowden; and brother, Jim Godwin (Betty) of Hampstead.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Andrews Valley Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to services. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
