WILMINGTON — Michael G. “Gene” Wells, 71, was born Nov. 8, 1947, and passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2019.
He was the son of Katie Hill Mintz and Columbus Mac Wells. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katie; and stepfather, John H. Mintz.
Gene was a longtime salesman of industrial supplies and retired at 66. He was a lover of antiques, art, books and traveling. He loved antique silver and was an avid collector.
He leaves behind a loving wife of 51 years, Betty; and son, Michael, who treasured him. Also to cherish his memory are his sisters-in-law, Diana Brady and Linda Sneeden; and brothers-in-law, Allen Sneeden and George Ramsey. He loved his nieces and nephews, Shannon and Bob Scurti, Wendy and Jerry Norris and Ray and Sam Sneeden; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Morgan and Amber Sneeden, Anthony and Samantha Scurti and Gavin and Bryson Norris, who were special to him.
The family wishes to thank his doctors and all the medical staff who took good care of him, especially Dr. Roc McCarthy and Dr. Andrew Schreiber. Lower Cape Fear Hospice helped Gene and the family in his peaceful passing.
Gene’s wishes were to be cremated. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Andrews Mortuary Market Chapel.
