WILMINGTON — Lucille Salmon Venters, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at Davis Health Care Facility.

She was born April 26, 1929, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to the late William Everett Salmon and Nina Mae Wright Salmon.

Lucille spent most of her life in Wilmington with her family. After graduating from High School in Owensboro, she moved to Wilmington with her sister and best friend, Irene, and later met the love of her life, Mark. They married in July 1951 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where they became life members. In addition to raising three children, Lucille worked as a bookkeeper and continued her education at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

She loved to walk, write fond stories of her life, and remained in contact with all her siblings, as they teased each other with nicknames they gave each other growing up. Both she and Mark enjoyed travel, led tours for the American Institute for Foreign Study and socialized with many friends. Lucille had a great wit and was best known for her kindness, no matter the adversity, and inspired many hearts throughout her life.

In addition to her parents, Mark, her husband of 62 years, and four older siblings preceded her in death, Ann Truman (Anna T.), Virginia (Gin), Irene (Enny) and William (Bubo).

Survivors include her children, Vicki Venters Barry (Steve), Susan Venters Newport (Greg) and Mark D. Venters III (Stacy); five grandchildren, Chris Barry, Rachel and Emily Newport, Jordan Garness and Matt Venters; two great-grandsons, Anthony and Benjamin, with another great-grandchild on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1401 South College Road, Wilmington, with the Rev. Beth Hood officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Davis Health Care Facility, 1011 Porters Neck Road, Wilmington, NC 28411.
