WILMINGTON — Thomas L. “Tom” Wallace, 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.

He was born July 27, 1940, the son of the late Hazel and Nester Wallace. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betsy; and their son, Chris.

Tom is survived by his son, Tommy Wallace, and his wife, Tina; and grandchildren, Jensen and Thomas Wallace.

He was a graduate of NHHS in 1959, Wilmington College in 1961 and East Carolina in 1969. After graduating from Wilmington College, Tom taught at White Oak School in Onslow County, Old Dock in Columbus County and Leland High School in Brunswick County. After graduating from East Carolina University, he began a career as an accountant working for several accounting firms. Most recently, he was an accountant for Windham and Company, CPA. In his spare time he was an accomplished square dance caller.

Tom was a member of St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church and was actively involved with the Boy Scouts, Compassionate Friends, Ham Radio Club, Civil Air Patrol (rank of colonel and NC Wing Commander), 76ers Dance Group and Hannah Block USO committee.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Cape Fear Council of Boy Scouts, or charity of one’s choice.
