WILMINGTON — Annie Belle Hardison Hill Pierce, 102, passed away in her sleep Monday, Jan. 7, 2019.

She was born July 10, 1916, in Wilmington to William Edgar Hardison and Brookie Ella (Todd). She was the second child of eight, survived by her brother, William Edward Hardison; sister, Dorothy Hardison Wynings; along with five deceased siblings, Edna Mae Blizzard, Hazel Lee Paige, Mary Alma Williams, Anna Lou Patterson and Aleen Brookie McDonald.

Her legacy includes her three beloved sons, Oscar Vernice Hill Jr., and his wife, Bernice, Jerry Lee Hill and Eugene William Hill (deceased); and seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Annie Belle dropped out of school at the young age of 14 to care for her sick mother and six younger siblings. She was employed for 20 years at the Garver Shirt Factory, where she quickly became foreman.

She will always be remembered for her avid love for God, her family, fishing, gardening, painting and crocheting, which filled her long life with great happiness, peace and joy.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral & Cremation Service Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington.
