WILMINGTON — Lucy G. Hunnicutt, 82, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, after a short illness.
Lucy was born Aug. 7, 1936, in Castle Hayne to Pete and Truus Groot of the Netherlands. She earned her degree in nursing at James Walker Memorial Nursing School and worked as an R.N. for 31 years at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was married to her beloved husband Charles for 60 years. She loved to sew, sing and play piano. She could never turn down a good yard sale. In her retirement, she and Charles traveled and enjoyed their grandchildren.
Lucy is survived by her loving family: husband, Charles Hunnicutt; children, Jeff, and his wife, Caroline Hunnicutt, and Steven, and his wife, Terri Hunnicutt; grandchildren, Eric M. Hunnicutt, Alec G. Hunnicutt, Noah G. Hunnicutt and Carly Bussmann; sisters, Jean H. Ellis and Sarah H. Phillips; and many nieces, nephews and church friends. She was loved by her family.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 14, at Temple Baptist Church, Market Street. A graveside service will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to services at the church.
