David Earl ‘Tony’ Raines, 92, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at Hospice of the Lower Cape Fear. Tony was the son of David Grover Raines and Dora Lee Raines.
He was born Aug. 9, 1926, in Wilmington and was educated in the public schools of New Hanover County, a 1946 graduate of New Hanover High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the time of the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Wilmington and had a long career at the New Hanover County Airport as a station agent, beginning with National Airlines; after that company left, he joined Piedmont Airlines. He retired from Piedmont Airlines.
He was lifelong member of Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cecil, Melwood, Ebern and Marvin David; and sisters, Inet R. Hardison and Dora Ree R. Justice. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their offspring.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St., Wilmington. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
