Thelma Stewart Gates, 89, volunteered with the Moose Lodge and American Legion Post 10

WILMINGTON — Thelma Stewart Gates, 89, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at her home.

Thelma was born Oct. 24, 1929, in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of the late Theodore D. and Sallie Mae Fields Stewart. A nurse, she retired from County USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Reconciliation, member of VFW Auxiliary and spent her spare time as a volunteer at the Moose Lodge and American Legion Post 10.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Robert Lee Gates, preceded her in death; along with two daughters, Brenda Danishmand and Beryl Gates; and granddaughter, Tara Danishmand.

She leaves behind her sons, Karsavina Gates of Los Angeles, California, and Theopullus Gates of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Tempie Green of West Covina, California; grandchildren, Theopullus Gates II, Kevin Gastelum, Lance McClellan and Treba Donaldson; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, at Lutheran Church of Reconciliation, 7500 Market St. Wilmington. Her cremated remains will be placed in the memorial garden following the service. The Rev. Bill Milholland will officiate the service. The family will greet friends with a reception following the service.
