Julia E. “Elizabeth” Moore Parlier, 98, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center. She was born April 15, 1920, the oldest daughter of George Allie Moore and Julia Biddle Moore.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Robert Mayes Moore, George Allie Moore Jr. and Mary Lou Moore Mayer; and husband of 64 years, Rufus Gwyn Parlier.
Elizabeth was a 1938 graduate of New Hanover High School and attended Lees McRae College in Banner Elk. Elizabeth worked as a Secretary for the District Attorney’s Office; Virginia-Carolina Chemical Corporation; and the North Carolina Shipbuilding Corporation Employment Office during World War II.
In 1941, she married her high school sweetheart, Rufus, and together they raised two children, Elizabeth Gayle Parlier Harvey and Rufus Wayne Parlier.
In 1956, she began work beside her husband in the newly established Parlier Plumbing Company and continued until his retirement. During those years, she did secretarial work for her church, was instrumental in the startup of the Long Leaf Hills Garden Club and was a Cub Scout troop leader. Her proudest accomplishment was the 34 years she served as a Red Cross Nurse’s Aide volunteer at James Walker Memorial Hospital and later at NHRMC.
Her greatest life experiences were traveling, boating, fishing; and her favorite pastime was clamming.
She leaves behind her two children, Gayle and Wayne; granddaughters, Elizabeth Paige Powell Bowling and Lesley Anne Powell Borneman (Stan); great-grandsons, Hunter Powell Marcum and Harry Stanton Borneman IV (Beau); great-granddaughter, Logan Elizabeth Marcum; sister, Eleanor Moore Coleman; and precious Pug, Frenchie.
Elizabeth’s hope was that she left some “happy tracks” along the way.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
A special thank you to her caregivers and to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center staff. To honor Elizabeth’s memory, in lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, Wrightsville Beach; or charity of your choice.
