SHALLOTTE — Captain Roger Alton “Capt. Rog,” “Super Rog” Gales, 48, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at UNC Chapel Hill Medical Center, Chapel Hill.

He was born Feb. 22, 1970, in Whiteville, the son of David and Debbie Gales of Shallotte.

Capt. Rog was a devoted family man, as well as an avid fisherman and shrimper. He was affiliated with The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 25 as a boatman for many years. He was a charter captain with Capt. Brant’s Fishing Adventures and Ollie Raja Charters. He was always smiling and would light up the room with his laughter and was always willing to help anyone that needed it. Roger never met a stranger and loved life to the fullest, he will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Darla Fox-Gales of the home; daughter Paisley Gales, his “entire world”; brother, Henry Gales, and his wife, Kimberly, of Shallotte; two sisters, Vanessa Taylor, and her husband, Trent, of Shallotte, and Amy McMullan, and her husband, Brant, of Ocean Isle Beach; 12 special nieces and nephews; along with a host of family and many friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, at United Vision Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Maurice Milligan and the Rev. Landis Lancaster officiating. A reception will follow services in the Fellowship Hall at the church. There will be a time of visitation held from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
