WILMINGTON — Margaret “Annie” Owens, 54, a former resident of Wrightsville Beach and later of the Scotts Hill Community, went to heaven Saturday morning, Oct. 20, 2018.

Annie was born June 18, 1964, and was the daughter of Elmer Jot Owens Jr. and Ruby Sanders Owens. Her 15-year caregiver and loving sister, Frances Kramer, was at her side at home when Annie passed. Other survivors are brothers, E. Jot Owens III and Ralph Clarence Owens of Wilmington, and Edward Walker Owens of Hawaii. Annie’s sister Frances is married to Peter Kramer. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Most of all, Annie will be missed by her longtime friend, walking and fishing buddy, Essie Bennett.

Even though she was afflicted with Down Syndrome, Alzheimer’s, and Dementia, Annie could always manage a smile. She loved all people and animals, had many friends and never met a stranger. To her mind, the whole world was just one big, beautiful and happy place. Annie was a lifetime member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints – Hampstead Ward. Annie loved to fish and was also a talented painter with bright and vivid colors. Sadly, the complications of Down Syndrome and Alzheimer’s took her life.

A memorial service for Annie will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 102 Deerfield Drive, Hampstead, NC 28443.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Annie’s favorite events in which she participated, the Special Olympics North Carolina, 2200 Gateway Centre Blvd., #201, Morrisville, NC 27560.
