Alton L. Sanderlin, 78, enjoyed fishing and woodworking

WILMINGTON — Alton L. Sanderlin, 78, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center.

He was born Oct. 16, 1940, in Wilmington, the son of the late Bradford Lionel Sanderlin and Nellie Catherine King Sanderlin. Alton was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from New Hanover High School and studied HVAC in Chicago, Illinois, before working in the HVAC field for 50 years. Alton loved the water, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He especially loved the time he spent enjoying his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Register Sanderlin of Wilmington; two daughters, Lori Sanderlin of Southport and April Alfano of Trumbull, Connecticut; two granddaughters, Caitlin Rifenburg of Southport and Madelyn Alfano of Trumbull, Connecticut; one grandson, Matthew Alfano of Trumbull, Connecticut; and sister, Doris Grady of Leland.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street immediately followed by a memorial service at Andrews Market Chapel with Deacon Zach Zuehlke officiating.

The family would like to express a special note of thanks to the Progressive Care Unit at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Dr. Lui and Dr. Snyder for their great care of Alton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Protect Our Coast, the National Audubon Society or the American Heart Association.
