WILMINGTON — Rachel Johnson Bland, 87, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018.
She was born July 1, 1931, in Roseboro to the late Marvin and Josephine Johnson. Rachel was a longtime and devoted member of Winter Park Baptist Church. She worked for 28 years as the Alderman Elementary School Dietician. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was a staple of the family.
Left to remember her are husband, William Woodrow Bland; son, Tim Bland (Saralyn); daughter, Sheila Bragg (David); sisters, Helen Martinez and Mildred Johnson; grandchildren, Julie Bland (fiancé, Joe Farinella), Rachel Baucom (Kelly), Eric Bragg (Rachel), Erin Compean (Cruz), Douglas Tronzo and Victoria Tronzo (fiancé, Justin Whitley); great-grandchildren, Scout, James and Indie Baucom, Luke and Presley Bragg and Cruz Compean; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Rachel was also preceded in death by sister, Kathleen Royal; and brothers, Peyton Johnson and Eddis Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, at Winter Park Baptist Church, Wilmington, with Pastor Mark Teachey officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to services at the church.
