WILMINGTON — Mary Lee Holstein Keffer, 88, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, at Britthaven of Northchase.
She was born Oct. 18, 1929, in Boone County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late James Lewis Holstein and Virginia Houser Holstein. Also remembered is her husband, Charles Kenneth Keffer Sr.; three sisters and three brothers; and grandson, Tommy Keffer, all of whom preceded her in death.
Surviving are six children, Elizabeth Hutcherson (C.B. Hutcherson II), Charles K. Keffer Jr. (Suzette), Sandra K. Morris, James Keffer (Linda), Michael Keffer (Patty) and Karen Pridemore (Rick); 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Holstein and Lorraine Roberts; and brother, James D. Holstein.
Mary was a caring nurse and employed as an LPN at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Britthaven of Wilmington for over 20 years. She loved gardening as well as cooking for her family. She had a “green thumb” and shared her knowledge of plants with everyone. An avid walker, she spent many hours at Wrightsville Beach collecting seashells and designing beautiful art pieces with them to share with family and friends. After her husband of 58 years passed away, she made Halyburton Park her walking spot on a daily basis. Her love and devotion to her husband, Charlie, was known by all, and she provided him with the love and nurturing that only a loving wife could give in his final years at home. She is forever with him now!
A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
