WILMINGTON —Robert Jackson “Tre” Benson III, 62, born May 14, 1956, in Durham to Sondra Teer (Benson) Robertson and the late Robert Jackson Benson Jr., passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018. His late grandparents were Dorothy and Nello Teer Jr. of Durham and Rebecca and Bob Benson from Sanford. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Reece Albright Robertson.
Tre is survived by his son, Benjamin Atticus Benson; mother, Sondra Teer Robertson; brothers, Marcus Teer Benson and Page Albright Robertson (Ann Marie), and his sister, Chase Robertson Hawk (Steven), all of Wilmington; sister, Ellis Robertson Yost (Mike), and brother, Rob Robertson, of Greenville, South Carolina; nieces, Pressley Roberts (Nathan) and Katie Yost, and grand-niece, Emmalynn Roberts, Ann Moore Robertson and Alexandra Chase Gorham; nephew, Reece Rhoderick Hawk; many cousins; and stepmother, Laura Bostwick Benson of Wanchese.
Tre was a talented artist who started a career when he was commissioned to create the first logo and brochure for Bald Head Island and first brochure for Lower Cape Fear Hospice among many. For the majority of his career, he worked in the film industry as art director for several movies and major TV commercials for years for NASCAR, Pharmaceutical Companies and Coca Cola. He was a passionate and active as advocate for the local Autism Society. Tre was also co-host with his brother Marc on Blue Line Radio for several years.
His greatest love and the absolute joy of his life was his 12-year-old son Ben. They enjoyed a very close and endearing relationship.
Tre’s unique personality will be missed by his family, his close friends and all who knew him.
A service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church, Wilmington.
