Denise Weaver Roushey, 59, made the world a brighter place with her wicked sense of humor

WILMINGTON — Denise Weaver Roushey, 59, passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, due to cancer at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Born Oct. 3, 1958, she was raised in Springfield, Virginia, and had been a resident of Wilmington for 20 years.

Ms. Roushey attended the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. A mobile pet groomer with Puppy Love, she was previously employed with the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center.

Denise loved books, and her life was an open one. To know her was to love her. She always had a smile and a story. She opened her heart and home to many people less fortunate than herself; she was generous to all. With her big, blue eyes and wicked sense of humor, she made the world a brighter place. She also enjoyed gardening and her chihuahuas.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley; father, John; and brothers, Craig and Larry.

She is survived by her son, Matthew, the light of her life; and her two chihuahuas, Minnie and Roo, who brought her great joy.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, at Cape Fear Christian Church, 811 North College Road.
