ASH — Virginia J. “Jane” Mintz Smith, 80, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Jane was born Feb. 21, 1938, in Brunswick County to the late Newman Martin and Etta Phillips Mintz.
She was a longtime member of Trinity Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church, now known as Lighthouse of Prayer Church, 2831 Big Neck Road, Ash. She and her family were instrumental in building this church many years ago, and she remained a very devout Christian.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Benjamin Owen “Bennie” King and Marlin Dale Smith Jr.; sisters, Earline “Pet” Bellamy, Betty Bellamy, Christine Hewett and Carlene Piver; brothers, Martin Mintz, Lindsey Mintz and Buddy Mintz.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Dale Smith; son, Jerry King, and his wife, Jeannie, of Ash; sisters, Mary Mintz and Naomi Peschau, both of Ash, and Barbara King, and her husband, Billy Wayne, of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Coley King and Kyla Trainor, and her husband, Ryan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Lighthouse of Prayer Church, Ash, with Pastor Donna Webb and the Rev. William Chappell officiating. Burial will follow in the Mintz Cemetery. You are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, prior to services at the church.
