HOLDEN BEACH — Eunice Allen Moore, 91, died in the comfort of her home Monday, July 30, 2018.
She was born Oct. 18, 1926, in Spencer, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wyatt Bruce Moore; parents, Clee and Lillie Allen; brothers, Marvin, Averill and Ivan Allen; sister, Goldie Lukawecz; and stepsister, Gertrude Allen.
Eunice is survived by her son, David B. Moore and Miranda Lyon of Arizona; daughter, Donna S. Moore and Jake Sutton of Wilmington; grandson, John David Fisher of Wrightsville Beach, and his father, Perry Fisher; one sister, Nella Gribble, of Clarksburg, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
No one remembers “Ms. Eunice” without mentioning her sweet, quiet nature. She possessed those things good in this world and an innocence to be envied. Her unguarded laughter and wit were rare treasures, right out of a Clyde Edgerton novel. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time in the company of Sabbath Home church women, often crafting gifts for locals as well as Lottie Moon Missionary support. Having the good fortune to live on the coast since 1970, she enjoyed in her last years a walk along the shore or a stroll to the waterway each and every day. She benefited from excellent health most of her life, maybe because her favorite drink was a glass of iced water.
With her passing, she gives us the final gift of sweet sadness. The letting go and learning anew this deep love we share is sacred. She, in the last of this beautiful life, left in comfort and dignity, enveloped in grace. She is eternal in God’s peace. As expressed by Jake, her dedicated caregiver and trusted friend, “We are privileged to care one for the other.”
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Eunice’s life in the Fellowship Hall of Sabbath Home Baptist Church, Holden Beach, NC community, where she was a longtime active member. Please drop by between 3 and 5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 12.
The family expresses infinite gratitude for expert care and nurturing support through Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
