OAK ISLAND — Gloria Rivenbark “Glo” Hewett, formerly Gloria Hilburn, 74, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

She was born Oct. 2, 1943, in Wilmington and had been a resident of Brunswick County for more than 50 years.

Retired from CP&L/Duke Energy, she was a devoted wife, mom and grandmother. Glo’s homes in Leland, and eventually Oak Island, were open to any and all her children’s friends and guests at all times of day even though it cost her many hours of restful sleep needed for her work! Later in life, she routinely volunteered helping other seniors of Southport and Oak Island after retiring until her own health began to fail.

Surviving are her husband, Royce Hewett of Oak Island; son, Doug Hilburn, and his wife, Rhonda, of Wilmington; daughter, Cheryl Burciaga, and her husband, Oscar, of Progresso, Mexico; son, Randy Hilburn, and his wife, Amy, of Carthage; son, Rodney Hilburn of Oak Island; brother, Maurice Rivenbark, and his wife, Joyce, of Wilmington; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Norwood and Jane Rivenbark; husband, Donald Hilburn; and daughter, Becki Hilburn Parrott.
