WILMINGTON — Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Jay LaVon Searls, 80, died Friday, June 29, 2018, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center.
He was born Sept. 30, 1937, in Norton, Kansas, the son of the late Ralph and Nellie Searls.
Surviving are his wife of over 44 years, Patricia Taylor Searls; one son, one stepdaughter, one stepson, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter.
Mr. Searls was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force; he served during Vietnam and retired as a master sergeant after 22 years’ service. He was a past master of the Federal Point Masonic Lodge at Carolina Beach as well as being district deputy grand lecturer.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 1, at Andrews Valley Chapel with visitation beginning at 1 p.m.
