
WILMINGTON — Elizabeth Walker Fensel, 94, died peacefully, at her home Thursday, June 7, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born June 25, 1923, in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late Robert Bratton Walker and Elizabeth McIver Walker.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Francis Peter Fensel; daughter, Elizabeth Fensel Hobson; and brother, Robert Bratton Walker Jr.
Betsy was very active in St. James Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday school, was treasurer of the Episcopal Church Women, a member of the altar guild and a volunteer in the church office.
She was a member of The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the state of North Carolina and served as the New Hanover County Committee chairman, president of the former Catherine Kennedy Home, and a member of the Ministering Circle and the Junior League.
She is survived by her brother, Cosmo Lowry Walker II; son, Francis Peter Fensel Jr.; daughter, Margaret Fensel Palmer; grandsons, Harrison Whitner Palmer and Robert Walker Hobson (Kate); and son-in-law, Robert Campbell Hobson.
A graveside service will be held at noon, Monday, June 11, at Oakdale Cemetery.
