WILMINGTON — Jerry Clark Swann, 86, of Wilmington, left his earthly home Monday, June 4, 2018.

Jerry was born May 15, 1932, a son of the late Exie Blackburn and Creasy Swann Sr.

He was a rare find as a true Wilmington native. Along with serving his country in the U.S. Army, he was a devoted employee of Babcock and Wilcox, retiring with 30 years of service. He married his love, Eva Otance Swann, in 1956, and together they built a legacy of love and faith throughout their 62 years of marriage. He will forever be remembered as a man slight of stature but big in personality. We could almost hear his joyful exclamations of “Holy Mackerel,” when he arrived at his heavenly home.

Mr. Swann was preceded in death by his mother and father; stepfather, Paul Blackburn; and sisters, Shirley Lawrence and Barbara Bates.

He leaves many cherished memories with his wife, Otance, and their three children, Russell Swann of Pocatello, Idaho, Paula Philemon and Robbin and Mike Capps, all of Wilmington; grandchildren, Devonna, Hillary, Amy, Stephen, Matt and Anna; great-grandchildren Dustin, Kaylee, Trent, Carsyn, Addy and the as yet unnamed Baby Girl Capps whose arrival we know he’ll celebrate from above. He is also survived by a brother, Creasy Swann Jr., and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

At his request no services will be held, but visitors are welcome at the home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center, to whom we are forever grateful for their unwavering compassion in his final days.
