
WILMINGTON — Constance “Connie” Jarvis Lancaster, 75, passed away after a sudden infectious illness Thursday, May 17, 2018, surrounded by family.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, George W. Lancaster; and their children, Joan (Kookie), Bill (Scott), Libby (Kenny) and Micki (Ryan); her six grandchildren, Michael (Brooke), Brian, Matthew, Brandon, Kendall and Zack; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother’s children, Chuck and Richie Jarvis. She was preceded in death by her parents, C.J. and Gertrude Jarvis; and brother, Charles Jarvis.
Connie was born Aug. 5, 1942, in Lexington, North Carolina, and moved to Wilmington in 1960. She had been a member of Winter Park Baptist Church for over 50 years and was actively involved in many ministries. She and Sally MacCallum were the first two women deacons ordained by Winter Park Baptist Church, and they led a Bible study at University Place Senior Living for over 20 years. She served as the Sunday school director at Winter Park for over 15 years, a Stephen minister, on the wedding committee and sang in the choir just to name a few. Connie was a spiritual beacon, gave wise counsel and was an example for many young women, including her daughters.
She was involved in many community organizations as a member and leader including Bible Study Fellowship, Christian Women’s Club, Junior Sorosis and the Girl Scouts of America. She loved home decorating and gardening and was a member of the Cape Fear Garden Club.
Many people referred to Connie as “Ms. Connie” because she was such an elegant Southern lady, classy dresser and gracious hostess.
The family will receive guests at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 20, at the sanctuary of Winter Park Baptist Church with the service of celebration at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Columbarium Fund at Winter Park Baptist Church, 4700 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, NC 28403.
