GOLDSBORO — Betty Spearman Best, 72, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018, at Wayne UNC Healthcare.

Betty was born Dec. 4, 1945, in Clinton, N.C., to the late Harold Lee Spearman and Sallie Helen Matthis Spearman. She attended Miller Motte College, and met her life partner, Horace, at the Chic-Chic, which was once one of the Port City’s favorite drive-in spots. She was a member of Saulston United Methodist Church.

Betty loved flowers and was a certified floral designer. She shared her husband’s passion of traveling and enjoyed nature and the many breathtaking views we all take for granted. Betty loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her precious grandchildren. She was a very caring and giving person, putting others ahead of her own needs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Howard Spearman and Bobby Spearman.

Betty is survived by her husband of 53 years, Horace Best; daughters, Renee Bryan, and her husband, Jonathan, of Goldsboro, and Shannon Best of Wilmington; and three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Cooper and Drew Bryan.

A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 19, at Saulston United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clay Parker and the Rev. Debbie Matthis presiding. The family will greet friends Thursday following the service in the fellowship hall.

A private interment for the family will be held in Willow Dale Cemetery.
