Susan C. “Carson” Davis passed away peacefully in her father’s arms while her mother held her hand and kissed her forehead, as they both sang to her early Easter Sunday morning, April 1, 2018.
Carson was born March 24, 2018, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Carson’s parents selected this hospital because she was diagnosed prenatally with a congenital heart defect, Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. After Carson’s birth, additional complicating factors were discovered.
Carson was a beautiful, strong baby. Carson was supposed to be born at 28 weeks, after her mother’s water broke prematurely. She was born at 35 weeks and four days. Carson was not supposed to be able to cry at birth. She cried. Carson was supposed to need intubation. She breathed on her own.
Carson had the loveliest olive complexion, her mama’s eyes, her daddy’s chin, the cutest little button nose and the sweetest smile. She was a calm, peaceful baby, only getting fussy when her parents changed her diaper. She loved to be held by her family and the wonderful nurses of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Her hiccups brought smiles to everyone.
Carson was blessed by the prayers and thoughts of the thousands who visited her website that chronicled her progress, scarsondavis.com.
Carson is survived by her parents, Stephanie A. and Jordan T. Davis of Wilmington, N.C.; aunt, Melissa S. Anderson of Greenville, N.C.; aunt and uncle, Jennifer W. and E. David Anderson IV of Charleston, S.C.; paternal grandmother, Jane B. Davis of Wilmington, N.C.; maternal grandfather, E. David Anderson III of Inverness, Fla.; maternal step-grandfather, E. Leroy Spivey of Columbia, N.C.; paternal great-grandmother, Iris T. Davis of Wilmington, N.C.; maternal great-grandmothers, Virginia W. Voliva of Columbia, N.C., and Randolyn G.
