ROAN MOUNTAIN, Tenn. — Shelton R. Tate Sr., 81, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018.
Mr. Tate was born Aug. 6, 1936, to the late William Tate and Coreda Simmons. He was preceded in death by a son, James Tate; and granddaughter, Ashley Marie Tate.
He loved God and people.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Faye Tate; children, Ray Tate (Wendy) of Wilmington, N.C., and Melissa Canady (Randy) of Hampstead, N.C.; three granddaughters and one great-granddaughter; and sister, Betty Bridges of Wilmington.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, March 31, at Hampstead Baptist Church, Hampstead, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
