WILMINGTON — Sandy Wayne Fincannon, 43, received his angel’s wings Monday, March 19, 2018, following a lengthy illness at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
Sandy had been a resident of Howell’s Child Care Center in New Bern for 36 years, where he was lovingly cared for by the nurses, nurses’ aides and staff.
Sandy now joins his very much-loved, great-grandmother, Carrie Davis Grimsley; grandfather, Stanley Grimsley; and cousin, Tanya Stephens, for a new journey to heaven above.
His memory will forever continue through his parents, Glenda Grimsley Fincannon and Richard Wayne Fincannon of Rocky Point; stepsister, Jennifer Lynne Fincannon of Wake Forest; grandparents, Valentina and William “Bill” McNeill of Wilmington; aunts, Brenda Grimsley, Wanda Adcock of Wilmington, Cindy Grimsley of Rocky Point, Evelyn McHugh of Wilmington and Sharon Blake (Carl) of Wilmington; uncles, Steve Grimsley of Willard, Randy Grimsley of Wilmington and Steve Fincannon of Wilmington; special cousins, Ursula (Bryan) Zoe, Brody Krikelas of Bluffton, S.C., Danny Dowless (Kaye), Samantha of Carolina Beach, N.C., and Lynn Burroughs (Mark), Melissa, Allison of Holden Beach, N.C.; along with Amanda and Kalen Grimsley of Burgaw, N.C., Seth Stephens of Rocky Point, N.C., Dustin, Garrett, Aubrey and Lara Grimsley of Wilmington.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 24, at Carvers Creek United Methodist Church, 14343 NC Hwy 87 East, Council, conducted by the Rev. J.R. Tatum. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be on the church grounds.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the staffs of CarolinaEast Medical Center (Urology, ICU), New Bern, N.C., and Lower Cape Fear Hospice of Wilmington, N.C., for the effort and caring services rendered to our son. Every day we and our son received encouragement, treatment and solace from truly exceptional professional caring people at these institutions.
