SOUTHPORT — Libby Laine Caster Sarner, 81, left this earthly life Saturday, March 3, 2018, to rest eternally with Christ Jesus after a courageous 15-year battle with chronic health issues.
She was born May 8, 1936, in Salisbury, N.C., to the late Craig M. Caster Sr. and Mittie Irene Whitaker Caster. Libby moved to the Southport area as a child with her family. Libby continued to blaze her own trail, and lived by her own terms and set her own rules long before it was an “in” thing to do!
Always filled with a story and an opinion, she loved her family immensely, and pulled for the underdog in every situation. She will be remembered for her wonderful Southern cooking, love of a great book, incredibly strong will, as well as her amazing green thumb. Libby owned and operated Wee World Child Day Care for 13 years, where she had the privilege of caring for so many Southport children.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 43 years, Terry Sarner of Southport, N.C.; brother, Craig M. Caster Jr. (Gail); four children, Donald Spencer (Madeline), Derek Spencer (Susan), Patti Laine Erkes (Axel) and Jason Caster Sarner (Aslıhan); and nine grandchildren, Jeremy Spencer (Kelly), Jennifer Spencer, Jonathan Sarner (Melissa), Julia Sarner, Rachel Laine Erkes, Amy Erkes, Alexis Libby Lee Sarner, Caleb Sarner and Jasmin Sarner. Libby was also blessed with four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m., Monday, March 12, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home, 1411 N. Howe St., Southport. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
