
ASH — Janice Marie McKeithan Evans, 72, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, March 6, 2018. She was born April 20, 1945, in Freeland, N.C., to the late Jesse Dallas and Letha Phelps McKeithan.
Janice was an employee of Comprehensive Home Health Care/Liberty Home Care & Hospice for 25 years. She loved her job, her colleagues and most importantly, her patients who became like family to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, the Rev. Brent Evans Sr.; brother, Allen McKeithan; sister, Laura Mae Johnson; and her “adopted” brother, Mike Stephens.
Janice is survived by her husband of 54 years, Rifton Evans; daughter, Rhonda Evans Benton, and her husband, Joey; daughter-in-law, Marlene Evans; three grandsons, Brent Evans Jr., U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Tyler Evans and U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Corey Evans; granddaughter, Abigail Benton; two sisters, Barbara Long and Dianne Mabry, and her husband, Tom; and her lifelong friend and “sister,” Opal Stephens. She is also survived by her “adopted family,” Jorge and Ana Garcia, and their children, Vanessa, Sandra, Jazmine and Alex, and their grandchildren, J.J. and Marci. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends.
A gathering of family and friends was held Thursday, March 8, at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte. A celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, March 9, at Myrtle Head Baptist Church, Ash, N.C., where she was an active member, deacon’s wife, Sunday school teacher and served in many other roles.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Myrtle Head Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Timmy Evans, 6627 Myrtle Head Road NW, Ash, NC 28420.
