
WILMINGTON — Carolyn A. Bentz, 76, a native of Kane, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, in Wilmington.
Carolyn was born April 4, 1941, in Kane, the daughter of longtime residents Forrest and Alice Weaver. She attended Kane Area School District and graduated in 1959. In 1964, she married Robert K. Bentz of Kane.
She was an active member of the Kane Presbyterian Church and worked at the Warren National Bank branch in Kane. Her husband took over as head of longtime Kane business Bentz Furniture upon his father’s death in 1980. She and her husband, along with former Kane residents, John and Chris Paup, also operated two businesses in Kane in the 1960’s and 1970’s: the Fabric and Yarn store and the John Robert department store.
In 1992, Carolyn and her family relocated to Wilmington, where they resided since. In Wilmington, she was employed by Belk’s department stores.
Carolyn was the mother of Steven R. Bentz, Douglas W. Bentz and Christopher K. Bentz, all Kane natives, but now living in Wilmington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bentz, in 2002; and her sister, Delores (Weaver) Dalstad, in 2016.
Memorial services were held in Kane at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 16, at the Cummings Funeral Home. A local memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.
