LELAND — Richard Edward Caffee, 73, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with his wife at his side.

He was born Nov. 4, 1944, in Whiteville, N.C. He was a son of the late Johnnie Caffee and Corrine Smith Mason.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Teresa Caffee; daughter, Sandra LeAnne Caffee; son, Richard Thomas Hammond; four grandchildren, Layton Hammond, Briana Hammond Manion, David Booth and Brittney Booth; sister, Linda Caffee, and her children, Johnna, Marty, Danielle and Jeffrey; two brothers, Billy R. Caffee Sr. (Joyce W.), and their children, Candace and Ray, and Ronnie Dale Caffee (Lisa), and their children, Lance and Trey; stepsister, Sharon K. McPherson, and her child, Vanessa; aunt, Shelvia Formyduval; and his special nieces, Morgan and Madison Sullivan.

Richard was a veteran the U.S Army who served during Vietnam. He was a member of Woodmen of the World, Elks Lodge No. 0532, for 35 years and American Legion Post No. 10 for 20 years. He enjoyed riding around in his truck. He was a dedicated husband who doted on his lovely wife and was always there for people who needed help. Richard loved his family dearly.

Visitation was held Monday, Feb. 5, at Andrews Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market St., Wilmington. A funeral service followed. Interment was in Oleander Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers include Jerry Robinson, Ray Caffee, Neil Smith, Marty Sizemore, Jeffrey Hale Sr. and Matthew Creech. Honorary pallbearers include Howard Williamson Jr., Jimmy Cooke, Larry Townsend, Donald Ray Cook, David Earl Cook and Jan Oosting.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s name to the American Cancer Society, 2202 Wrightsville Ave., Suite 111, Wilmington, NC 28403.
