WILMINGTON — Shirley Johnson West, 87, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, after a brief illness. She was born April 2, 1930, in New Hanover County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin L. West Sr.; and her parents, Kenneth and Doris Huband Johnson.
Shirley is survived by her stepchildren, Edwin L. West Jr., and his wife, Patsy, J. Wallace West, and his wife, Gail, and Nancy West Ahlstrom, and her husband, Ken; step-grandchildren, Pamela West Hurt, and her husband, Mark, Karyn West Smith, and her husband, Karl, and Ed West III, and his wife, Lucy; and several step-great-grandchildren and many cousins.
Shirley was a lifelong member of First Christian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and in various other capacities. She was a member of the Cape Fear Lions Club and the Master Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
A funeral service was held at Monday, Jan. 15, at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Brad McDowell officiating. Pallbearers were Mark Hurt, Karl Smith, Edwin West III, Edwin West IV, John Hewlett West and Elijah West. Interment was in Oleander Memorial Gardens following the service.
