WILMINGTON — Constance Ann Woodworth, 75, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at her home.
Born Feb. 23, 1942, in West Lafayette, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Arthur and Marjorie Chanel Edwards.
Constance had a passion for the arts. She never passed by a museum. She and her husband had an agreement that he would go to museums with her and she had to go to any dog or horse track with him. She was a lifelong member of the Battle Creek, Mich., chapter of the DAR. She also loved to draw and paint with watercolors and was pretty good at it but never took the real time to develop her skills.
Travel was a priority and she would always talk about her three best trips. An eight-day float trip down the grand canyon; a seven-day drive around the Ring of Fire of Iceland; and multiple trips to France and Italy to visit friends. No matter where she traveled, she always thought of her friends first. She would drive her husband nuts by purchasing gifts for them and not for herself. And, most important, was her tremendous love for her husband, children and grandchildren who brought her a great deal of joy. Locally, she was known as the “cookie lady.” She would bake her dishpan cookies for anyone and won over the hearts and stomachs of the weekly crew on the refuse truck.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Paul Woodworth; daughter, Kathryn Woodworth; son, Geoffrey Woodworth, and his wife, Suzanne; two grandchildren, Dustyn Sellars and Jayden Foster; brother, Michael Edwards; two sisters, Elizabeth Knowles, and her husband, Jim, and Martha Smith, and her husband, Kerry; special uncle, Jerry Edwards, and his wife, Sabra; aunt, Helene Bell; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will see friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 11, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 12, at Basilica Shrine of St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
The family would also like to thank her caregivers, Dr. Panida Piboolnurak, Dr. Jeffrey Cooney, Dr. Lori Birdsong, Dr. Toren Davis and Dr. Nancy Peters.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research at tmcfunding.com or to a charity of one’s choice.
