
WILMINGTON — Elsie Lee “Bunny” West Goodnite, 90, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at The Kempton at Brightmore.
She was born Oct. 18, 1927, in Columbia, N.C., to the late James A. West and Donnie F. Ambrose West.
Bunny retired as a chief deputy clerk, U.S. District Court Eastern District North Carolina (EDNC) and administrative assistant to Chief Federal Judge Algernon Butler, U.S. District Court EDNC. Prior to moving to Wilmington, she was an avid pianist, organist and choir director.
After retiring, she and her husband owned and operated Goodnight Frame Gallery in Clinton, N.C. She was a longtime choir member, along with her husband, at First Christian Church. Bunny was a strong-willed and determined woman, who loved her church and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Cleve Goodnite.
Survivors include daughters, Pamela Gwenn Harris Morris, and her husband, Michael, and Babette “Babs McDance” Dale Harris McCullen-Welker, and her husband, Allen; stepchildren, Jerry T. Goodnite, Susan G. Espersen, and her husband, David, and E. Alan Goodnite, and his wife, Pat; grandchildren, J.J. Barnes, Chevis McCullen, Christian McCullen, Chet McCullen, Jason Goodnite, Justin Goodnite and Jared Goodnite; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 7, at First Christian Church, 2035 Oleander Drive, Wilmington. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 8, at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
