WILMINGTON — Eileen Skane Ryder, 90, formerly of Trumbull, Conn., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at Davis Health Care Center.

Eileen was born Nov. 27, 1927, in New York, N.Y., daughter of the late John Martin and Margaret Farrell Martin. Her first husband, James Skane Sr., preceded her in death.

During the 1970s, Eileen was a very successful real-estate agent and won many awards. In 1981, she and her first husband started their own logistics company. In 1990, they made the wise decision to move the family business to Wilmington.

Eileen was an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church and a Eucharistic minister. She volunteered with Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Vivacious would be an understatement when describing Eileen. Her big smile, great laugh and red hair made her impossible to ignore and a joy to be around. She had a heart full of love and a generous spirit.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Ryder of Wilmington; two sons, James Skane Jr. and Bob Skane (Amy), all of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Danielle (Paul), Chris, Ryan, Emily and Chloe; and three great-grandchildren, Sophia, Jaxon and Mila. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, step-children and step-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at St. Mark Catholic Church with the Rev. Pat Keane officiating. Interment will follow in Sea Lawn Memorial Park, Hampstead.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eileen’s memory may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
