SOUTHPORT — Dennis J. Byrne, 77, formerly a resident of Rochester, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, surrounded by his loving family after a long struggle with cancer.
He was the son of the late Walter and Margaret Byrne and was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael. Peggy, his loving wife of 42 years, passed away in 2010.
Dennis leaves behind his daughters, Molly (Michael) Rule of Rochester, N.Y., Amy (Stephen) Kovacs of Charlotte, N.C., and Kathleen (Edward Jr.) Kelley of Ligonier, Pa. Missing Papa most will be his seven grandchildren, Grace and Lily Rule, Conner, Brennan and Gavin Kovacs and Ayden and Ryleigh Kelley. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Thomas Mulhern; sisters-in-law, Jane Doran and Patricia Byrne; many nieces and nephews; and loving friend, Carolyn M. Grassi.
Dennis served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and spent a long career in accounting and finance with Haskins & Sells and Leroy Industries Inc.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 29, at St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church, 3000 Chili Ave., Rochester, N.Y. Inurnment at Holy Sepulcher will immediately follow services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Dennis’ favorite charities, The School of the Holy Childhood, 100 Groton Parkway, Rochester, NY 14623; or Our Lady of Victory Homes Of Charity, 780 Ridge Road, Lackawanna, NY 14218.
