John David Godbold, 65, king mackerel fisherman who won many tournaments

WILMINGTON — John David Godbold, 65, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017. He was born Nov. 5, 1952, in Clinton, N.C., to John David “Jack” and Jessie H. Godbold.

David worked at DuPont in Leland, N.C., for 28 years. He was an avid king mackerel fisherman and successfully placed in numerous fishing tournaments.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his son, Kevin.

David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Debbie; son, Wesley; sister, Delores (Rickey) Hamilton; mother-in-law, June Bass; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle and friends; and his loving companion, Lacey.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21, at Fellowship Baptist Church. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the services. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
