Dorothy Carr Johnston, 77, loved volunteering at the Southport Visitors Center

SOUTHPORT — Dorothy Carr Johnston, 77, sadly passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, with her daughters by her side.

Dorothy was born in Janesville, Wis., and a longtime resident of Chatham, N.J. She retired with her late husband, Dennis, in Southport in 2001. Dorothy was a dedicated and impactful special education teacher. After retirement, she loved volunteering at the Southport Visitors Center and the Maritime Museum. Dorothy was also an active member at Southport Presbyterian Church and served as the church historian and as a member of the Administrative Committee.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Kristi (and Ed) Godek of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., and Ami McIntosh of San Anselmo, Calif.; sister, Florence; and grandchildren, Madison, Nick and Jack. Her love, strength, grace and wit will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 19, at Southport Presbyterian Church.

As a three-time breast cancer survivor, her daughters would prefer memorial donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, or to the Southport Presbyterian Church, Building Fund.
