Elizabeth Christine Eubank Cox, 88, volunteered at New Hanover Regional Medical Center

WILMINGTON — Elizabeth Christine Eubank Cox, 88, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at Brunswick Cove Nursing Center. She was born Oct. 1, 1929, in Maysville, N.C., the daughter of Guy Lee Eubank and Lela Mae Salter Eubank.

She was a graduate of Maysville High School and attended nursing school at James Walker Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, N.C. She later volunteered at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with the Hospital Auxiliary and the American Red Cross.

She was a bookkeeper for Cox Farms and Pender Glad Farms for many years and was a lifelong member of Cape Fear Country Club.

She was an avid bridge player and spent many happy times with her bridge friends over the years. Mrs. Cox was a member of The Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, Wrightsville Beach, N.C., where she volunteered and was a choir member. Her favorite roles in life were those of loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Albert Darrell Cox Jr.; sister, Carol Eubank Hignite; and her step-grandson, Kevin David Taft.

She is survived by her son, James Darrell Cox, and his wife, Lesa, of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; daughter, Susan Cox Miller, and her husband, John, of North Miami Beach, Fla.; sister, Pat Eubank Ray; sister-in-law, Betty Burt; grandchildren, Amy Cox Dexter (Jeff), Amanda Cox Lesher (Jon), Elizabeth Christine Rhodes (Brian Dascanio), Sarah Scott Rhodes Bowers (Noah) and Albert Dustin Cox Rhodes; step-granddaughter, Christi Palacios; four great-granddaughters, Hayden and Parker Dexter, Alyssa Lesher and Lydia Dascanio; step-great-grandchildren, Stella Grace Ferrill and Joey Lesher; and beloved nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Kavita Persaud and all the staff of Carolina Geriatrics and the caregivers at Brunswick Cove Nursing Center and Lower Cape Fear Hospice. The family also thanks special friend and visitor, Cathy Howell.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 22, at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St., Wilmington. The family will meet with visitors one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.
