
Kenneth Edward “Ken” Smith, 76, passed away at the home Monday, Oct. 16, 2017. Ken was born Aug. 28, 1941, in New Jersey, the son of the late Leo Edward Smith and Wanda Cahill Smith. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bette Ann Smith.
Ken and his wife, Sarah, moved to Wilmington in 1973. Ken was a beloved husband and father. He was an ever-present source of strength and guidance for his family.
He was third generation DuPont employee and worked faithfully for DuPont for 36 years.
He enjoyed working on cars and loved bowling. Upon retirement, he spent many years refurbishing computers and gave over 500 computers to those in need. He was an avid history buff, especially all things related to Egypt.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Sarah; daughter, Karin Pleasant, and deceased husband, Mike, of Raleigh, N.C.; daughter, Susan Stankus, and husband, Marty, of Wilmington, N.C.; and sister, Connie Ballantyne of Phoenix, Ariz.; and beloved grandchildren, Kelsey Pleasant, John Michael Pleasant, Lindsey Pleasant, Sarah Constantine, Devin Stankus and Blake Stankus.
No services will be held, but family and friends are welcome to visit in the home.
