Alice Rice Cottingham, 87, former teacher with Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools

Alice Rice Cottingham

Alice Rice Cottingham, 87, of Williamsburg, passed away Friday, Sept. 29, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Phelps Cottingham Jr.

Alice retired as a teacher from Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools and was a parishioner of Williamsburg United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Greensprings Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Alice is survived by her daughters, Marycarol White (Bill), Patty Rigney (Jimmy) and Ann Brown (Scott); grandchildren, Billy and Charles White, Jay Rigney, Katie Rohrig and Megan and Rob Brown; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 15, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. A celebration of life will follow visitation at 2 p.m., at the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 5712 Cleveland St., Virginia Beach, VA 23462; or charity of your choice.
