SHALLOTTE — John Talton Madison, D.D.S., 81, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017. Born Oct. 8, 1935, in Thomasville, N.C., he was a son of the late Tyre Glenn Madison Sr. and Dora Ellen Pearson Madison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, T.G. Madison Jr. and Charles Madison.
He graduated from UNC School of Dentistry, where he served on the Student Dental Association and was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity. He served on the Brunswick County Board of Education and the Brunswick County Board of Health. He was a co-founder of Brierwood and Bricklanding golf courses. He was past master of Shallotte Masonic Lodge No. 725 A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Sudan Shrine Temple. He was a member of Shallotte Presbyterian Church and its Building Committee.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Clemmons Madison; sons, the Rev. Tal Madison (Julie) of Wilmington, N.C., Tim Madison of Shallotte, N.C., and Jeff Clemmons (Teresa) of Supply, N.C.; daughters, Terri Durham, Shallotte, N.C., and Teresa Smith of Georgia; sisters, Ruth Conner of Cary, N.C., and Barbara Morgan of Asheboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Madison Stewart, Ragan Laughlin, Carson Durham V., Veronica Madison, Ethan Madison, Monica Clemmons, Cassidy Clemmons, Tara King, Brittany Galloway, Zackery King, Jacob King, Kelsey Smith and Chloe Smith; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte Stewart, Annabelle Powers, Brianna Powers, Trenton Galloway and Mason Galloway.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 24, at Shallotte Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites. Dr. Madison’s nephews will serve as casket bearers.
