WILMINGTON — Mary Elizabeth Varnam Gray, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Gray was born in Brunswick County on Nov. 29, 1929, and was the daughter of the late William Clarence Varnam and Delma Robinson Varnam. She was longtime member of Winter Park Baptist Church and worked in the cafeteria at Roland-Grise Middle School for many years. She was the wife of the late Charles C. Gray.
She is survived by three children, Jerry Daniel Gray of Bolivia, Dena Gray Simmons, and her husband, Delane, of Lyman, S.C., and Donna Gray Putnam, and her husband, Brady, of Lexington, S.C.; grandchildren, Brannon Gray, Ethan Simmons(Kelly), Becci Johnson (Brett), Ryan Putnam (Gabby) and Christine Putnam; great-grandchildren, Stella Johnson, Olivia Johnson and Ayden Simmons; and brother, Jerry Varnam (Maola) of Katy, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 8, at Winter Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Teachy officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends are invited to a time of visitation with the family at Winter Park Baptist Church on Friday morning one hour prior to the service.
