Robert Henry ‘Bob’ Kraus

OAK ISLAND — Robert Henry “Bob” Kraus, 75, passed away at his home Friday, Aug. 25, 2017. Bob was born Aug. 28, 1941, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to parents Adam Robert and Katherine Wagner Kraus.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Kraus; two daughters, Kathy Sherrill (Gary) of Greensboro and Patty Philcox (Lance) of Key Colony Beach, Fla.; stepdaughter, Rhonda Lanier of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Kathy Kester and Jane Kraus; three grandchildren, Rachel, Kacey and Brian; and three great-grandchildren, Audrey, K.J. and Nevaeh.

Bob served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked as a research and maintenance engineer at Lorillard in Greensboro, N.C., and retired with 34 years of service. Following retirement, Bob spent his years traveling across the U.S. with his wife, tournament fishing with his friends, and even meeting new friends down in the Florida Keys, where he spent many winters.

Bob was surrounded by loving family members and treasured his time with them. He enjoyed reading, playing bridge, cooking, playing board games with the kids, and watching the birds out on the front porch. He was the kindest and most generous man to all and always had a great outlook on life.

We graciously ask those whose lives have been touched by Bob and his contagious smile, please come and join us as we celebrate the beautiful life he lived. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel, Southport, with the Rev. Nicholas Giannatasio officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
