WILMINGTON — Patricia Ann Sams DeVaun, 79, went peacefully to be with her Lord Friday, Aug. 18, at NHRMC. She was born April 4, 1938, in Danville, Va., to the late Annie Mae (Darlington) and Benjamin Walker Sams.
Patsy was a devoted wife and the best mom and grandma ever. She could always put a smile on your face with her amazing sense of humor or by singing you a silly song. She will be remembered for her beautiful soul and sweet nature.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James E. DeVaun; two daughters, Sherri DeVaun Bradley (Rich) and Suzanne DeVaun Shearer (David); son, Jeffrey DeVaun (Kady); grandsons, Brendon and Joshua Shearer; and beloved cat, Ollie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elizabeth Surles; brother, Benjamin Sams; and niece, Sandra St. John.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, at Winter Park Baptist Church, 4700 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Clif Harris. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name to the ASPCA are appreciated.
